    KXAN/TW Dispute Commentary

I read this commentary entitled I want my NBC today by a KXAN employee. Much like politics I am a bit perturbed by this discussion as in the end the only person getting hurt is the consumer, as always. I could not help but comment,

"While I understand both sides there is the very key element that TW provides the infrastructure to bring cable to your house. In the OTA model the station makes their money off of advertising revenue and that should be the same in the cable model except that money to TW should pay for infrastructure. If I get the product over the air it's free, so what is different with me getting it via cable? The fact that I have 100% access to the station no matter what, so I always get it. The cost involved in getting the cable to my house and providing that infrastructure is huge. I in no way have a dog in this fight other than being annoyed that I don't have the channel. Although I do work in network engineering so have an intimate knowledge of the costs involved in this sort of model. By these corporate entities continuing to not minimize their cost and simply raising their revenue they are simply hurting the consumer who does not have any more money to spend. I am considering dropping my cable anyway, why would I be happier with prices increasing?  KXAN and TW, how about I buy all of my TV from the internet or better yet get it for free?! That way you both lose out on all of my money."

I am just pointing out that these models are old and flawed. Get over it. Find new ways to make money or die out. Don't continue to raise prices and expect consumers to pay MORE money for the same old product. I don't need 10K channels, no one does. Just sell me a decent product for a decent price and figure out how to minimize your cost so that you can make money.
