Steve Jobs Taking Leave of Abscense for Health Reasons. Wow!

    Team,

I am sure all of you saw my letter last week sharing something very personal with the Apple community.  Unfortunately, the curiosity over my personal health continues to be a distraction not only for me and my family, but everyone else at Apple as well.  In addition, during the past week I have learned that my health-related issues are more complex than I originally thought.

In order to take myself out of the limelight and focus on my health, and to allow everyone at Apple to focus on delivering extraordinary products, I have decided to take a medical leave of absence until the end of June.

I have asked Tim Cook to be responsible for Apple's day to day operations, and I know he and the rest of the executive management team will do a great job. As CEO, I plan to remain involved in major strategic decisions while I am out.  Our board of directors fully supports this plan.

I look forward to seeing all of you this summer.

    Steve

    Apple iPhone Application Icon Management

As you can see on the Apple Support Forum, iPhone Icon management stinks. It is quite apparent that application access isn't something to which Apple has paid much attention. And why should they have, until now there wasn't really more than one page of icons. Now many people have 2,3 or even more pages of applications. And as an extra bonus every time you update an application it moves your icons around for you. Hooray! Please, please, please Apple, make these update in place. And perhaps even think of some revolutionary way to make application management even easier. A drop down list, a new dock, something. There's a free black turtleneck in it for you if you do!

Tutorial: Turn Your iPhone Into a Wireless Modem

Still seems a little complicated and not fleshed out. But if you want to try it out this should help.

Tutorial: Turn Your iPhone Into a Wireless Modem

Here at Wired.com a few of us were excited about turning our iPhones into wireless modems with the $10 NetShare application -- but none of us could get it to work. Fortunately, we got our connections up and running with some help straight from NetShare's maker, Nullriver. So we've created a step-by-step tutorial in case you're stuck, too.

How to configure and deploy the iPhone 3G for business, part 1

One of the biggest stories behind the release of the iPhone 3G -- and the iPhone 2.0 firmware update for first-generation iPhones -- was the inclusion of features designed for use in business environments. While many analysts and enterprise users have argued in recent weeks about whether the iPhone can replace Research In Motion's BlackBerry as the prevailing smart phone for business, little has been said about the tools and processes that Apple offers systems administrators to actually deploy and manage iPhones at work.

    iConcertCal

iConcertCal is a free iTunes plug-in that monitors your music library and generates a personalized calendar of upcoming concerts in your city. It is available for both Windows and Mac OS X and supports worldwide searches. I've tried it out and it works great. Very cool. I hope that SXSW doesn't cause mine to blow up! haha.

Lifehacker guide for switching to a Mac

A great guide for all of my friends switching to the Mac platform lately. Welcome to the fun! About time. ;-)

What follows is a round-up of everything that stuck out to me when I made the move to my first Mac. I'm still a dual-OS fellow, but after I figured out the ins and outs of my Mac, it's by far the place I find easiest to get things done. If you're delving into Macs for the first time, the following should come in handy.
